We've been discussing on what material did Vera Wang use for the petals and stems on the chest. The thread is metallic silver embroidery thread.
I experienced using linen with adhesive on the back, felt with chiffon covered, silk with chiffon covered.
We decided to use felt but the felt here aren't as delicate. Luckily my mom went to Japan for visit so I asked her to buy felts in Japan. Japanese felts are more full and thick.
Here's the step by step on how I embroid the petal. (LEFT) quilt needle, filler (left over felt chunks), felt petal, back of the petal (ironed on with adhesive), complete version petal (RIGHT).
(LEFT) Put the filler on top of the petal where you going to embroid. (RIGHT) Thread through filler from top to bottom.
(LEFT) back of the petal. (RIGHT) front of the petal. You thread over the filler left to right, right to left.
While I was making the flower decor, I was sewing rest of the ribbon on chiffon skirt.
The stems of the flower decor on the chest. We used cloth wire and bend it several times to get the right thickness of the stem. With the embroidery thread wrap evenly.
I bend the wire into a loop to get the tip and then wrap the loop from the end.
We were so glad we switched the ribbon because the current one (RIGHT) looks so much better. We only had to sew it once as suppose to the old one (LEFT), we would have to sew twice.
Vera Wang's looked like she used silver pipe cleaner to do the stems but Celine likes this version better~ It does look sharper~
Celine said it looks like vector graph~ =)
